Carry On for Long Haul Flights | TRAVEL

On my flight to get to Europe I will be flying 11 hours to Abu Dhabi and then 8 hours to London. This is a breakdown of what I like to pack in my carry on bag when taking a long haul flight such as the one I'll be taking soon. The better and smarter you pack the more comfortable you'll be and easier your journey will feel.

WHAT TO PACK IN YOUR CARRY ON BAG-

Toilettes:
  • Toothbrush and small toothpaste
  • Mini mouthwash
  • Floss
  • Lip balm
  • Small face wash
  • Moisturizer
  • Painkillers
  • Lip balm
  • Hand sanitizer
  • No-doz
  • Hair elastic
  • Pocket tissues
  • Spare pair of underwear
  • Fem wipes / wet wipes
  • Panty Liner
  • Deodorant
  • Hair brush
  • Medication
  • Optional: eye drops

    TIPS TO STAYING FRESH
    • Brush your teeth, wash your face and moisture. Flying really drys out your skin so make sure you give it extra attention. You can even try doing a sheet face mask while on board to pump some moisture back into your skin- if you're game.
    • Drink heaps of water to stay hydrated. You need to drink more water when flying than you would usually drink every day.
    • Make sure to get up from your seat every now and then and do some stretches to make sure the blood flow around your body stays active.

    Entertainment:
Long haul flights can really drag on so it's good to have a few other forms of entertainment. A portable power charger will be your best friend while you're travelling, so as long as you keep it charged then you'll never be stuck with dead entertainment.
    • Laptop and charger
    • iPhone and cord
    • Headphones
    • Portable power charger
    • Wall Plug convertor
    • Something to read
    • Something to write

    TIPS TO STAY ENTERTAINED

Most planes these days will include a USB port near your chair so you can keep your phone charged. If you're not sure if your plane will have this you can check using SeatGuru, which is a website that allows you to search your plane and seat number to see what facilities that plane/seat offers. Helpful af. However, when planning for a long haul flight I always prepare as if there wasn't the option of having a USB port.

    • MAKE SURE ALL YOUR ELECTRONICS ARE FULLY CHARGED BEFORE YOU BOARD!!
    • Pre-download Netflix shows and movies onto your phone. This will allow you to watch them without having to be connected to the internet.
    • Pre-download podcasts on your iPhone through the podcast app.
    • Download a few games onto your phone before your flight and make sure they work without wifi. My favourites are 1010!, WordBrain, Blitz, Dots and Unblock me.

      Money and Documents
This is the important stuff. A great tip is to take a photo/scan of your important documents and email it to yourself or store it in Dropbox. If something goes wrong this means you'll always have a back-up. I like to also store all my documents in a physical thin file so they're organised and all together.
      • Velocity Global Wallet Card
      • Debit card
      • Printed travel insurance
      • Printed itinerary
      • Spanish visa
      • ISIC student card
      • Passport
      • Cash

      Spare Clothes:
Despite it being 2017, airlines still lose bags. This is why it is so important to always carry a spare pair clothes in your cabin bag just in case! Keep it basic and light though so they don't take up too much space/weight.
      • Leggings
      • T shirt
      • Jumper
      • Socks
      • Underwear

      Other:
      Just some more important stuff.
      • Neck pillow (absolutely essential)
      • Thick socks (so your toes don't freeze)
      • Warm jumper (in case they blast the air con)
      • Eye mask (my best friend)
      • Pen (for filling out your arrival/customs card)
      • Wallet (also kinda important)
      • Empty water bottle
      • Camera (always carry valuables in your carry on!)

      TIPS TO SLEEPING
      • Use an eye mask. They can be strange to get used too, but they help to block out any light and also keep your eyes shut allowing you to fall asleep easier.
      • Using a neck pillow will help you stay comfortable and make sure you don't wake up with a sore neck.
      • Sound cancelling headphones really help to eliminate cabin noise when you're trying to sleep. Regular headphones work well too!

      Until next time,
